How to Sell Farm Machinery Online and Get a Good Price
The machines that sell quickly and for good money are not always the newest. They are the ones with honest, complete listings. Here is how to put yours in front of buyers the right way.
Price it with the market
- Look at similar machines listed now and what recent lots sold for or were passed in at.
- Decide the lowest price you would accept. That becomes your reserve if you sell at auction.
- Most buyers will make an offer, so leave a little room.
Take good photos
You can add up to 12 photos to a listing. Shoot in daylight after a wash, and include:
- all four sides;
- the cab or controls;
- the hour meter or odometer;
- the serial or identification plate;
- tyres or tracks;
- any damage.
A short video of it starting and working answers a lot of questions before they are asked.
Write a complete description
- Make, model, year, hours and serial number.
- Key specs: horsepower, working width, transmission, attachments included.
- Service history and recent work.
- Known faults. Being upfront builds trust and avoids disputes.
- Whether GST applies, where it is located, and whether you can help with loading.
Respond quickly
Buyers ask questions from the listing and make offers. You are notified by email and SMS, and you can accept, decline or counter each offer. Quick, clear answers turn enquiries into sales.
Fees and getting paid
Listing is free for sellers. Buyers pay a 5% buyer's premium plus GST on top of the price when they buy. Sellers pay no commission. When your item sells, the buyer is invoiced and pays, and your money is sent to your nominated bank account.
